10 QUESTIONS WITH DR MARCO NICOLOSO, MEDICAL DIRECTOR AT OURONYX

10 QUESTIONS WITH DR MARCO NICOLOSO, MEDICAL DIRECTOR AT OURONYX

1.) Dr Marco, welcome to The Mayfair Musings. Please tell us a little bit about your career to date and how you came to work to join Ouronyx as Medical Director.

I have always been passionate about beauty and aesthetic treatments. I passed my medical degree in Italy and went on to specialise in gynaecology, before doing a Masters in aesthetic medicine. I later enrolled in injectables training in London before deciding to make a permanent move to England and work in aesthetics fulltime and I have been practicing for 7 years. I joined Ouronyx in April 2021 after I met with founders Ida Banek, who is a professor of psychology, and Marc Princen, and was extremely impressed with their approach to aesthetics and the entire philosophy behind Ouronyx.

2.) What is the most interesting part of your job as an aesthetic doctor?

The journey of helping my patients to feel better about themselves, improve their confidence and self-esteem and make them satisfied about the way they look and how people see them. This is my goal when I start a treatment and I hugely enjoy it.

3.) Ouronyx looks more like an art gallery than a clinic, can you share what makes the clinic so different to others?

We are a unique clinic which is evident from the moment you walk in and begin with your on-boarding process and client journey where we asses a patient’s goals, expectations and fears. Each patient is given an in-depth consultation, which can last up to an hour, with their doctor to discuss their potential treatments during their first visit to the clinic. Technology plays a big part in our approach from 3D scanning to remote digital access to their files accessible to all our patients.

I work with each client to understand their motivations and priorities using our unique diagnostic approach based on aesthetics and anatomical markers and together we build a bespoke treatment. I am an advocate of a holistic approach that looks at the face as a whole, to restore feature harmony rather than focusing on isolated areas.

4.) What advice do you have for those looking to start injectables for the first time?

My advice is to look for an experienced practitioner and to start with injectables when you feel there is something specific you want to improve or that might be bothering you. Treatments like Profhilo or Secret RF are great options to begin with to improve skin quality, hydration, and to stimulate collagen production, especially for those patients that are unsure about injectables.

5.) The greatest barrier to trying injectables is the fear of an unnatural-looking result. How do you at Ouronyx aim to break that down?

At Ouronyx, we aim to break down that fear, with a focus on psychology which will determine a patient’s key aims, as well as their fears and personality, to inform their treatment plan. We address their anatomical and emotional goals, all of which are the benchmark of a good aesthetic procedure. More important, it demystifies the treatment journey, and gives the patient a road map – so that they feel in control. We respect who they are and their natural beauty. We treat the face holistically; we understand and treat the cause of the aging process not the consequences with a very natural outcome.

6.) I know you have recently introduced an innovative Micrografting treatment to address hair loss. Can you tell us a little more on how it works?

Micrografting is the latest technology for non-surgical hair loss treatment which uses your own skin tissue to help slow down hair loss and stimulate existing follicles to grow. It involves taking 3 micro grafts from the hairline. These micro-grafts are processed in a machine and the product is injected all over the scalp to improve thickness, density and hair quality. Only one treatment is needed, and patchy areas of the scalp will feel thicker in around three to six months.

7.) Could you tell us a bit more about 3D scan technology? How does it work and how do you use it to help you during consultation?

We use the Cherry system which is the latest 3D facial scanning technology. It creates a 3D image of the face, and it measures the depth of wrinkles depth and loss of volume, as well as collagen levels, and fat loss. It is a great tool to have during the consultation to explain the aging process and guide the diagnostic and treatment plan. We can also show the patient their progress: for example, how much collagen was restored, the improvement in wrinkle depth or the reduction of sagginess though a second scan after treatment.

8.) What advice would you give clients who want to address and manage their aging process in the best way possible and find their own self-confidence through aesthetics?

I would advise the right treatments for the right purpose and try to treat the cause. People want to feel confident and being confident means looking like yourself not somebody else. Natural look should always be the aim of any treatment. Most of the patients want to look good for their age to feel better about themselves. This can only be achieved with a subtle and natural approach. Treatments should be undetectable aiming to make patients age well, always respecting the anatomy and the ageing process. Fillers should be used to restore, support and enhance some features, not to change them.

9.) What are some of your favourite places to visit in Mayfair?

I absolutely love to visit my favourite restaurant, Murano, a Michelin stared restaurant in the heart of Mayfair which has a delicious Italian menu!

10.) When you’re not busy working, where can you be found and what might you be doing?

I love cooking so I might be making and eating some pasta with my fiancé.
