A CULINARY EVOLUTION: CELEBRATING 200 YEARS AT THE ORIENTAL CLUB

April 2024

The Oriental Club is celebrating 200 years in London. Founded in 1824, the Club has since transformed into a dynamic hub, hosting many people with connections to the East. The Club’s membership is diverse, uniting men and women with a spirit of adventure, global experiences and with discerning expectations of food. The club’s home is Stratford House, set back from Oxford Street, an impressive building that combines historical charm with modern elegance.

The Club is marking its Bicentenary with a series of celebrations. Among the highlights is the re-launch of its beautifully renovated Dining Room, designed by Russell Sage Studio, bringing a fresh perspective to the Club’s historic, creating an atmosphere that seamlessly blends tradition with contemporary elegance.

The Club has a notable culinary heritage. In the 19th century, the Club’s then Chef, Richard Terry, was the author of one of Britain’s first Indian Cookery Books entitled “Indian Cookery”. Fast forward to 2024, and the club is presenting a new menu featuring reimagined classic dishes from both the East and the West. Members and their guests can enjoy dishes such as Keralan Prawn Curry, Old Delhi Style Chicken Makhani, and Malai Methi Corn Paneer, Jerusalem Artichokes, King Oyster Mushrooms & Potato Croquettes, Roasted Sea Bass with Fennel, Girolle Mushrooms & Pickled Grapes.

The Club’s Head Chef, Arkadiusz Forystek, joined the Oriental Club from The Goring Hotel. Prior to this he spent nearly seven years at Fortnum & Mason, which provided him with the opportunity to work with well-known Chefs such as Angela Hartnett and Nathan Outlaw.

The Oriental Club is also proud to showcase its notable Wine Cellar and its active Wine Society. Members also have access to an extensive Wine List that has been carefully curated over many years. To mark the Bicentenary, the Club has procured a celebratory special edition wine, Jaffelin Auxey-Duresses 2017 - Les Duresses, an expressive Pinot Noir.

The Oriental Club promises to be a memorable gastronomic experience - a true celebration of two centuries of culinary excellence and cultural vibrancy.
