MARCH FLOWERS WITH CELEBRITY FLORIST NIKKI TIBBLES OF WILD AT HEART

This month welcomes the first signs of spring. It’s an incredibly exciting time for anyone who loves flowers and nature. From vibrant hellebores to scented narcissi and rose buds, my garden starts to come alive.

By mid-March the cherry blossom lined London streets make my heart skip a beat. The bird song is incredible and the honeybees make a busy appearance. Walking down the street in Notting Hill, I am overwhelmed by the beauty. White town houses are framed perfectly with pink blossoms and blue skies. It’s heavenly and it reminds me why love splitting my time between both Sussex and London.

Early spring is the best time to visit London’s many parks. Look down and you will notice specs of yellow and purple as the crocuses shine. Look up and you will see trees full of life. Look out for Crab Apple, noticeable by its magenta flowers, Pink Shell with its delicate cup-shaped pink flowers and the Shirotae cherry blossom bearing generous fluffy white flowers and a light citrus scent. It’s a precious site but short lived so cherish every moment.

What I really love to do at this time of year is bring the outdoors in on a larger scale and introduce a branch into my home. If you are lucky enough to have a magnolia tree in your garden and can spare a branch or two it will make a show stopping display.

I like to display terracotta pots of Paperwhite Narcissus ‘Paperwhite Ziva’ around the house with its crisp white flowers. They may be small and delicate but they smell divine. Jugs of narcissi are a beautiful and affordable way to display flowers in your home. I use a mixture of vintage jugs and vases. Look out for creamy Erlicheer with a sweet, vanilla custard scent or Avalanche with a gorgeous heady floral fragrance.

March is the beginning of floral abundance. One of my favourite Wild at Heart bouquets this time of year is called Spring Hedgerow. It evokes all the charm of a spring walk through the English countryside and features the prettiest combination of wax-flowers, genista seasonal foliage, ammis, mimosa and green foliage. It's inspired by the armful of flowers I return with following a springtime walk through the West Sussex countryside.
