MESSAGES FROM MAYFAIR: STORIES OF HOPE DURING THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC

“Noxy Brothers moved their coffee bar from Burlington Arcade at the height of the pandemic to give the Mayfair coffee experience to those most in need on the frontline. The Brothers also raised £50,000 for Help Them Help Us to support frontline NHS staff and their families. We’re now back at our home, Burlington Arcade, and look forward to welcoming people when they’re next around.”

“Nothing feels more normal then coming back to the beautiful streets of Mayfair, visiting the shops, enjoying my favourite coffee shop and getting back to self-care in South Molton Street.”

- Michal Cohen-Sagi, Founder & CEO at 58 Wellbeing Ltd

“My sister Grace and I were due to open Queens of Mayfair, our artisan coffee shop and cocktail bar in March. Sadly due to Covid, our opening was postponed until August and a much quieter Mayfair. We have been overwhelmed with support from local businesses and residents wanting to welcome a new independent business to the neighbourhood. It’s in difficult times like this that community spirit prevails.”

- Victoria Sheppard, Co-Owner & Managing Director at Queens of Mayfair

“For the first time in my working like I found myself at home for 5.5 months. To say this was a shock to the system is an understatement. I wasn’t able to “work from home” in the traditional sense as I had no product around me - nothing to sell.  However I adapted quickly I started to make Instagram videos, to talk, to engage with my audience in a way I never had time to do before. I could express myself, my passions, my opinions and this was an outlet for me and to a huge extent for my audience. It’s sounds cliche but my advice is simply to adapt quickly and literally just Keep Calm and Carry On!”

- David Silver, Director of The Vintage Watch Company, Burlington Arcade

“You know you're in love when you can't fall asleep because reality is finally better than your dreams. During Corona, we at Berkeley work together, play together and of course, get together. ”

Mairead Molloy, Relationship Psychologist, Berkeley International

“Keep calm, carry on and never give up - from one small business to another.”

- The Team at Flora Bunda

“During lockdown I remember one night having a real “downer.” I was about to get into bed and escape into Netflix, then I realised that I would probably wake up feeling the same. I chucked on a hoodie and went out walking at 10.30pm, walking through Hyde Park for about an hour. I took some silence and some phone calls with friends overseas that I wanted to check in with. In short, I came home feeling like a new person. I can’t stress enough that getting out for a walk is such a great opportunity to reset your mind and mood.”

“When life is not a walk in the park, walk in the park…”

- Scott Ashley, Personal Trainer & Development Coach, Mayfair

“We hear stories about leaving London because of COVID-19 to escape to the countryside, to connect with nature. For those like us, the city folk, that love London, it’s a better choice to bring nature closer to us. As your local architects we aspire to bring nature to London spaces with our THINK NATURE design approach, inspired by natural forms and incorporating greenery in the space. This is proven to result in reducing stress, lowering blood pressure and heart rate, whilst enhancing creativity and improving well being. We’d love to see Mayfair leading London to THINK NATURE designs. Think Mayfair, THINK NATURE.”

- Debbie Flevotomou MA, Director, Debbie Flevotomou Architects

“As an experienced direct marketing business with a strong reputation for achieving results, Impressco was asked by the Evening Standard to create a way and set up a distribution operation to ensure that 250,000 Londoners received the important/essential content of the newspaper to their home each day during lockdown and in the months since. We've delivered over 30 million papers so far, by hook or by crook, helping to keep Londoners informed, entertained, in touch and prepared. It's been tough, especially in the rain, but we have done our best to strengthen the impress in Impressco.”

-Charley Lowe, Managing Director, Innoventive
