HOTEL REVIEW: MAYFAIR TOWNHOUSE, HALF MOON STREET, MAYFAIR

This month, we had the pleasure of staying at The Mayfair Townhouse, located moments from Green Park Station and Hyde Park Corner. Inspired by the whimsical characters of our past and present, this attractive hotel has a flamboyant personality whilst remaining understated and rooted in professionalism. The guest rooms provide all the amenities that you’d expect from a 5-star hotel in the West End, without all the frills.

As you enter The Mayfair Townhouse, you are greeted by the hotel’s friendly concierge, who is ready to offer assistance and recommendations with a smile. The front desk is positioned to the right of the lobby and to the right, a stairway takes you down to an attractive, low lit co-working space and the gym beyond. Beyond lobby area lies The Dandy Bar - Mayfair’s shiny new all day dining and cocktails hot spot, much loved by locals.

Guest rooms present workstations, dressing tables, luxury mattresses, Noble Isle toiletries and complimentary soft drinks and snacks. Regal blue walls with warm gold and deep red accents remind you that you’re in Mayfair, whilst limited edition, story-telling images by Miss Aniela add a touch of intrigue.

You cannot hear the world outside, yet the window seats in our room offered an excellent view of a bustling Half Moon Street below. This was a perfect spot for reading Oscar Wilde’s The Importance of Being Earnest, supplied by the hotel during the turn down service. Did you know, Half Moon Street is a primary setting within the famous play?

Cocktails are the shining star of The Dandy Bar: ‘The Earl in Mayfair’ combines Dubbonnet Rouge, Mancino Amaranto, Gin Infused Florence Fennel, White Bitter, Cocoa and Wormwood Cordial; whilst ‘Autumn Blossom’, Belvedere Jasmine Infused, Rinquinquin Peach Wine, Lemon, Rhubarb Syrup and Rhubarb Bitter.

When it comes to dining, The Mayfair Townhouse have broken all of the rules. Described as ‘a place for the luxury nomad’, the hotel presents an all day dining menu that is short and sweet - think light bites, small plates, antipasto and sides (we recommend the Charred Padron Peppers with smoked Maldon seasalt); burgers and sandwiches (there’s a great vegan burger); seasonal salads and a handful of mains (Lobster Curry, Roasted Cod, Truffle Risotto).

There are just three choices for afters - Baked Vanilla Cheesecake, Rosella’s Tiramisu and British cheese. This no fuss, one page menu works very well for a working lunch or a casual dinners with friends. The service is fast and friendly.

If you’re celebrating a special occasion, head to The Lower Ground in The Mayfair Townhouse that can accommodate up to 100. Bespoke menus, theatrical cocktails and canapes can be arranged in this sultry and low lit Mayfair hideout. You can find out more about The Den, The Pantry Club, The Club Rooms, Oscar’s Study and The Loft Suite here.

This ‘elegantly practical’ hotel is a particularly brilliant choice for business travellers who are looking for a comfortable base in the heart of the West End, or for leisure travellers who want to take advantage of the hotel’s enviable location. This non traditional hotel have created a calm and reliable place to work and connect.

Local residents and workers - be sure to pop into The Mayfair Townhouse for whimsical coffee meetings, co-working and cocktail evenings. One of the things I love most about this hotel is that, unlike some 5-star hotels, The Mayfair Townhouse is not even remotely pretentious. The staff go out of their way to make you feel at home.
