MY MONTH IN FLOWERS WITH WHITNEY BROMBERG HAWKINGS, FLOWERBX

Five Ways To Reset Your Home For September

Welcome to My Month in Flowers, our column curated by FLOWERBX founder Whitney Bromberg Hawkings. At FLOWERBX, every month of the year is celebrated for its own unique floral beauty; from summer to winter - and back round again - there is something to be cherished in every season.

As September - and a new season - is now in full swing, there’s no better time to refresh your surroundings. Whitney shares her favourite ways to do so, with a little help from the right flowers, plants, and home accessories.

For me, September always signifies a fresh start. Warmer weeks fade into crisper days, and with them, cosier moments that are best spent at home. I believe your home should always be a sanctuary, but no time more so than the beginning of autumn. Not sure how to hit refresh on your interiors? Here are some of my favourite ways…

Embrace Autumn Varieties

Summer’s sweet and dainty varieties may have left us for another year, but autumn is often an underrated season when it comes to floral beauty. I love watching flowers evolve throughout the calendar, as sweet pastels and summer brights turn into rich jewelled tones of burgundy, rust, ruby, and plum. Plus, September is the time when foliage and branches truly start to come into their own, so vases of Eucalyptus, Pampas Grass, and Kangaroo Paw are soon on the menu, too!

Think Beyond Vases

I love cut flowers, but I always find that the start of autumn is the perfect time to get creative! In the lead-up to seasonal occasions like Thanksgiving - or even as a luxe alternative to Halloween decor - a wreath is a versatile investment. Just about to launch are our Wheat Wreath and Autumn Wreath, which are both hard-working options, as they can be displayed just about anywhere - from your front door to a mantlepiece, or signature wall. For now, you can also shop our Four Seasons Wreath, which will be cherished at home all year round.

The Autumn Wreath is launching soon at FLOWERBX.com

Refresh Your Houseplant Collection

Summer spent neglecting your house plants? We’ve all been there! Luckily for us, September is the perfect time to add to your interior jungle, as there are plenty of indoor plants that best suit low light or more shady conditions. At FLOWERBX, we have everything from giant Fiddle-Leaf Fig trees to miniature ferns, so there really is an option for every home this autumn.

Fill Your Home with Fragrance

Nothing sets the tone at home quite like the right fragrance. As nights draw colder, and days are spent inside, lighting a candle or a spritz of room spray can help evoke calm or elevate your mood. My favourites for this time of year are our Eucalyptus Candle and Tuberose Room Spray, or - if you’re not sure where to start - our Mini Trio Candle Set may help you find your favourite!

Set an Autumnal Tablescape

Your busy summer schedule may feel like it’s slowing down as we all settle back into a routine, but there’s always a reason to make even the most ordinary of evenings feel extra-special. To do so, I like to fill Bailey bud vases with seasonal single stems of frilled Carnations or feathery Astilbe, then dot them liberally along my dinner table setting. Always team with our Ester and Erik taper candles in Buttermilk or Elderflower, then simply add your favourite linens and glassware!
