We were very keen to experience The Ampersand Hotel’s Jurassic Afternoon Tea in South Kensington. It’s a wonderfully imaginative take on one of Britain’s best-loved traditions, with a family-friendly, prehistoric theme.
The Jurassic Afternoon Tea feels delightfully immersive without being over-the-top, with charming dinosaur-inspired details and a sense of occasion that means adults will enjoy it just as much as children. We love that this theatrical afternoon tea can also be paired with a trip to the nearby Natural History Museum, just a few minutes’ walk from the hotel. Like us, you can spend the morning exploring the museum’s famous dinosaur galleries before continuing the adventure over this fabulous, experiential afternoon tea. It makes for a lovely full day in picturesque South Kensington.
At the table, we enjoyed attentive service and the wonderfully creative selection of sweet and savoury treats inspired by the prehistoric world. We loved discovering the dinosaur egg nests, chocolate dinosaurs and other eye-catching culinary treats, served alongside familiar favourites, including warm, freshly baked buttermilk scones, Cornish clotted cream and jam, and a selection of teas.
The interiors at The Ampersand Hotel provide a wonderfully refined setting for its imaginative afternoon teas. Victorian grandeur meets playful, contemporary details, creating an atmosphere that is both elegant and characterful without ever being overly formal. Rich colours, patterned fabrics, statement lighting and original architectural features give the hotel a sense of occasion, providing a sophisticated backdrop to the fun and immersive experiences on offer. While younger guests can fully embrace the prehistoric theme, the afternoon tea still feels like a refined experience for adults too.
