THE OYSTER CHAMPIONSHIPS: COMING SOON TO BENTLEY'S OYSTER BAR & GRILL
There are few things more quintessentially London than oysters, champagne and a little friendly competition. This September, Bentley’s Oyster Bar & Grill will once again bring all three together as the London Oyster Championships return to Swallow Street on Friday 18 September 2026.
The event marks the fourth year under the stewardship of Richard Corrigan’s celebrated seafood institution, which itself celebrates an impressive 110 years in London this year. It also heralds the start of the native oyster season, bringing together some of the country’s finest chefs, shuckers and seafood aficionados for an afternoon of oysters, entertainment and plenty of fizz.
The afternoon begins with the Speed Shucking Oyster Open, where competitors will battle through heats before the grand final, racing against the clock to open their oysters with speed and precision. The winner will go on to represent England at the World Oyster Opening Championships in Galway.
From 3pm, attention turns to the ever-popular Best Dressed Oyster, with chefs challenged to create their most imaginative oyster dressing. This year’s contenders include teams from Bouchon Racine, The Suffolk, The Sea, The Sea, Brigadiers and Logma, alongside returning champions from Fallow.
The judging panel promises plenty of star power, with Stanley Tucci, Matthew Fort, Jeremy Lee MBE and Georgiana Davies among this year’s food and culture voices.
For those wanting to get closer to the action, VIP tickets include an intimate oyster masterclass exploring provenance, preparation and tasting, alongside Champagne pairings.
