COMING SOON: THE SHEPHERD MAYFAIR, A NEW HOTEL IN SHEPHERD MARKET

January 2026

Opening in 2026, The Shepherd Mayfair marks an elegant new arrival in one of London’s most characterful enclaves. Set within Shepherd Market, the boutique hotel brings fresh energy to Mayfair while remaining deeply rooted in the area’s layered history. Led by Timothy Shepherd - who began the project at Buckley Gray Yeoman before continuing it through his own practice, Shepherd& - the hotel is conceived as a contemporary interpretation of Mayfair’s historic mansions, balancing heritage, storytelling and quiet luxury.

Occupying a rare freehold site and spanning 33,600 square feet, The Shepherd Mayfair will form part of Elegant Hotel Collection. Across six floors, the hotel will house 82 individually configured guest rooms and suites, each responding to the building’s original townhouse proportions. Interiors pair warm timber finishes with lighter tonal palettes, softly curved upholstery, blue accents and rich red velvet curtains, creating a sense of intimacy and refinement. Practicality is thoughtfully integrated, with adaptable furniture, concealed storage and desks that transform into dressing or chess tables—subtle nods to the rituals of travel and leisure.

Design storytelling runs throughout the hotel, with references to local personalities such as Lord Sandwich and Tiddy Doll, as well as discreet braille and Morse code details that allude to Mayfair’s wartime intelligence history and nearby Down Street station. Circulation spaces are deliberately atmospheric, showcasing curated artworks by British photographers Jack English and George McLeod.

Dining and social spaces are central to the hotel’s character. Fayre, a 75-cover modern brasserie, draws inspiration from the historic Mayfair fair with berry-toned interiors and animated wall artworks by Adam Ellis. The Lounge offers a relaxed café-to-bar experience, welcoming both guests and locals throughout the day. Below ground, Teddy’s - a hidden late-night cocktail bar named after Edward Shepherd - channels the spirit of Mayfair’s 1960s drinking rooms, with deep green and blue interiors and Liberty archive prints.

As Timothy Shepherd notes, the hotel is envisioned as a place where business and pleasure coexist - much like the original Mayfair mansions themselves. The result is a hotel that feels intrinsically part of its neighbourhood, while confidently carving out its own modern identity.
